hello, this blog is made up of the thoughts of David Baker. its main purpose is to air out things that i am studying or just random thoughts i might have at any given moment. most times it will be about God or theology, but there maybe times when i just have something else on my mind....
John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

and to continue to your thought... just like salvation we have to make the choice whether or not we choose to receive the gift....
i would agree we do decide to receive Christ in salvation, but thats not the whole story....and i think it very telling you felt compelled to clear up that verse when the bible does not.
Jhn 3:27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven. Jhn 3:28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him. Jhn 3:29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. Jhn 3:30 He must increase, but I [must] decrease. Jhn 3:31 He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all. Jhn 3:32 And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony. Jhn 3:33 He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true. Jhn 3:34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure [unto him]. Jhn 3:35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. Jhn 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
i don't read anything in there about "we have to make the choice whether or not we choose to receive the gift"....
im not trying to be a jerk it may seem like it but really im not, i thought the verse was perfect within it's self so i did not say anything about it. i love that all good gifts are from God and that you can not go and take anything of God by your own will, its given from him! hence, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.
i was not implying anything about calvinism or otherwise, just liked the verse.
As my comment stated, I was continuing on the thought as to what came to my mind. I, in no way was referring to any type of theology. Just sharing the thought that came to my mind when I too read the verse. I do not think you were being a jerk, just clarifying your perception and why you posted that verse.
Thank you for continuing to search the Word and continuing to draw nearer to God. I pray that you would continue to seek His face and Truth and that you would grow in Grace and knowledge that abounds.
well, i'm not sure who you are but i thank you for the nice words, and do appreciate your comments on my post. i do this blog mostly just to get the thoughts out of my head but it is always nice to know someone is reading it and even better when people interact with it. please feel free to do so any time. i do tend to speak my mind with out a sugar coating and that has gotten me in trouble in the past because it's hard to tell with what spirit someone is saying something on here, (or on any text communication for that matter)but i'm working on proper wording as not to offend people with my thoughts.
